The increase of cost of fuel for irrigation in Somalia had greatly impaired the production of food along the riverine areas. SOADO started to research alternative energy for irrigation and it is piloting the jatropha as biodiesel in Afoogye district in Lower Shebelle and Jalalaqsi district of Hiran regon. The plant is germinated and developed well, they set up fruits and SOADO is exploring the processing and ways to use the biodiesel as fuel for irrigation. Sustainable energy is prerequisite for food security, poverty reduction and economic developments
